It has been a long day.
A large group of them were roaming the streets outside of Brad's house. We were quiet, yet productive. We gathered all of the canned food together to measure our rations. There were 42 cans of food. Do the math and thats about 8 cans for each of us. We can go without 3 meals a day, so we're cutting it to 2. But 2 cans a day means that we'll have to go out to scavenge for food in about 4 days. That's too soon. We'll be eating one can a day; half a can each meal. But we don't have to start eating the canned food just yet. David pointed out that we should just finish all of the food that will soon expire. Thats gives us about 2 weeks before we have to go find some more.
I found out today that Brad's dad has a vault with some guns inside. But, unfortunately, Brad doesn't know the combination, but he knows that it's written down somewhere in the house. We have to find it soon, or at least before we go out.
I also remembered that we need water. Luckily Brad's house has 3 bathrooms, each with a bathtub. We filled each one up to the brim. We need all the water we can get. Also, Brad's parents paid an extra $12,000 to upgrade the house with a giant bath tub in their master bathroom. It was a good investment. The water will last us a very long time.
We checked the news today but there wasn't any new developments. The programs were already running in loops. I thought it would be awhile till the media was shut down. The outbreak spread faster than I thought.
The only things still actively running are the internet, electricity, and water. Speaking of electricity, we need to find a way to generate electricity before the power grid goes down. Brad has a radio and a flashlight that charge themselves by manually cranking a lever. Its a good thing David, Marcus, and I took AC/DC Circuitry this year at school. I think we can mod it to charge other devices as well. I guess school can be helpful.
I'll be back we just heard something loud outside.

Hello. My name is Shane. I am a survivor. I am with 4 other friends. We are all in our last year of highschool.
Today is by far the worst day of my life. I don't know where to start. I guess at the beginning. I was in 4th period, when my principal started an unannounced speech on the intercom. All he asked was that the teachers turned on there television. He said any channel would do. My teacher did as her boss instructed.
The same program was on every station. The news. The ticker at the bottom read: "BREAKING NEWS: PANDEMIC HAS BROKEN OUT."
In the past week there were reports of a new disease originating somewhere in South America. Apparently it caused its infected to go into a series of convulsions and have severe hemorrhaging from the nose, mouth. and ear;it is believed to be caused by the swelling of the brain.
The anchorman began to speak,"We want to warn all viewers that the following footage is very, very disturbing." His eyes were starting to become glossy with tears.
The video banner read: "INFECTED ARE DANGEROUS-San Antonio."
I couldn't believe what I saw. A pale, bloody man was chasing the camera man. The camera man turned the corner and crashed into another bloody man. He drops the camera on the floor, but you can still see them on the ground. I thought they were just fighting, until the infected bit the other man. The whole class clamored in unison as the infected bit through chunks of the man. The other infected caught up to the struggle and grabbed onto the mans leg and bit it as well. My mouth was open in disgust. What were we suppose to say? We've never saw anything like this. I heard a classmate behind me vomit, but I didn't bother to look back.
The video cut a to press conference. The World Health Organization was taking the spotlight. Basically they said:
  • -the infected are no longer holding human  characteristics
  • -the infected feed on any kind of meat and will stop at  nothing to get it
  • -they are slightly slower than before, but are in no way  considered slow
  • -they feel no pain
  • -the ONLY way to terminate them is to destroy their  brain
  • -the disease is transfered through the transfusion of  an infected's blood and your own(not by air)
  • -anybody killed during an attack will stay dead,  however if they remain alive the body will continue to  become infected and become re-animated
  • -motor skills are almost non-existent

Great.
I had to get home to make sure my family was ok.
I looked up at my friends, sitting next to me. We all had the same idea. I told them we had to leave and they agreed. School didn't matter anymore. We knew this would change everything. My teacher did nothing to stop us. It was me, Will, Marcus, and David.
We were running to our neighborhood, which was close to our school. We all lived within about a mile radius of each other.
On our way we decided to go to Will's house first because his dad had 3 guns that we all knew how to use because his dad took us hunting every year. But this time we have to use it on humans. Or,well.... animals.
We got to his house but nobody was there. We grabbed the guns: 2 double barrel shotguns and a .357 magnum. Will and I used the shotguns, Marcus the .357, and David grabbed Will's baseball bat.

I rather not describe the next events but in short summary:

  • Me: mom=missing // dad=dead
  • Marcus: mom=dead // dad=missing
  • David: mom=dead // dad=dead
  • Will: mom=dead // dad=missing

After we searched each house we had one more. Our friend, Brad, didn't come to school today. He lived a little farther away, but still walking distance. We had to make sure he was ok. On the way we encountered some infected. We all got shots out before they could get dangerously close.
When we got there his door was open. I feared the worst.
I stepped in first. The house seemed empty, except for the blood covering the floors and walls, and some loud banging. This was what our houses looked like, too. We all entered and closed the door. Marcus yelled out Brad's name. The banging stopped. Then came Brad's older sister running down the stairs, but she fell and tripped down the first level of stairs. I ran quickly to her to help her up, but when she picked up her head I jumped back. She was one of them. Marcus took the first shot.  Will took the second. There was no need for a third. Her face was gone. I called out Brad's name again. This time we got a response. He yelled back asking if we were ok. We yelled yes and ran upstairs to him. He opened his room door and was reassured to see us. He said he was up there for at least 2 hours. She wouldn't give up. I guess the news was right.
There was nothing else to do. What were we going to do? We couldn't really go anywhere. We all decided to stay here in the meanwhile. We had experience with "zombies" before, but not in real life. Video games.
We got downstairs and locked all of the entrances. There were 3 of them.
We found Brad's parents, but you can probably guess how they are.
Now we are just kinda sitting upstairs and are remaining silent. We all lost somebody. This isn't fair.
I write this for myself and for you. Who ever you are. We don't know how many are still safe. But please, if you are reading this, please reply. We need help.
